LANDMARK WEEK FOR DONOVAN
It was a landmark week for Donovan. On May 10th he celebrated his 75th birthday with the release of a new video single “I AM THE SHAMAN,” produced and directed by David Lynch, that quickly went viral (https://youtu.be/V5i98tfyGac).
Then, he and his and his lifelong muse, wife Linda, announced their new animated children’s series TALES OF ALUNA in a Variety magazine feature written by Steven Gaydos (https://variety.com/2021/music/artists/donovan-animation-aluna-1234971759/). The article was followed by a second Variety Birthday Special presenting ten of Donovan’s most innovative songs and recordings (https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/donovan-75-donophile-guide-10-150023293.html).
On Saturday night, May 15th Donovan was an honored online guest on Clive Davis’s annual Pre-GRAMMY Gala, a benefit for the GRAMMY Museum and MusiCares, on which he was chosen by Clive to close the event with a spellbinding pre-recorded interview and an acoustic performance from his country home in Ireland. In the Zoom audience were seen the smiling faces of legends and luminaries like Joni Mitchell (who performed earlier in the event), Peter Asher, Desmond Child, Melba Moore, and many more, watching from her homes. It was a virtual love-fest.
Donovan says, “I was your first signing Clive, when you became head of Columbia Records and brought me to Epic, we both opened a portal to the new way ahead. It was a special pleasure to be your special guest at this year’s Gala. Thank you, Clive, for all you do for music, and thank you Recording Academy, GRAMMY Museum, and MusiCares — You always will have my support.”
