OPEN ROAD

Description:

The Open Road album was the first recording to be named as “Celtic Rock”, a term dubbed by Donovan himself to refer the style of the group, which had been brewing in the previous albums, Barabajagal and The Hurdy Gurdy Man.

The album is Donovan’s simple three piece plus Mike O’Neill of The Gladiators.
And on the track ‘Changes‘ Donovan plays Fender Strat lead on a borrowed Fender Strat from Paul McCartney who was down stairs in Morgan Studios doing his first Solo album, playing all the parts.
The outstanding track on Open Road is RIKI TIKI TAVI, which announced Donovan’s brilliant Fusion of Blue Beat Reggae, which grabs Top Needle.
